Worthy Women Series: Danijela Gorley

“ I didn’t think I was bad with money. It wasn’t a thing in my life that needed a lot of attention.”

But as Danijela Gorley uncovered through her journey over the past year, her relationship with money was a mirror of how worthy she felt and, as it turns out, both needed a lot of attention.

Danijela grew up in a communist country and remembers always being taught that you shouldn’t want to rise above anyone else. You have to remain the standard or level that is familiar.

It was this ingrained belief that always kept her “just below” full potential. Her limiting money story kept her at a comfortable level. And anytime the idea of success became uncomfortable, she would remind herself of her childhood teachings; that wealth equates to being an evil person or rising above others and she shouldn’t be above anyone else.

She recalls a memory that as a child her family lived very frugally and all she wanted was a real Barbie. She had family in Germany, who were seen as being wealthier and she asked them if they could buy it for her. A belief that developed in adolescence that if she wanted something, she would have to ask others for it.

“When the Barbie did arrive, it was a cheap plastic replica. That became a reinforcement that I can’t get what I want.”

A block that developed into the ideology that adult Danijela was, and will only ever be, worthy of a replica of the real thing.

So what helped her realize that she needed to shift her mindset? Self-trust.

During Mint Worthy’s Live in Your Worth coaching program she felt from the other women such an understanding and deep trust in her that she started to question why she didn’t have that trust for herself.  She started to trust in herself and address the lack of spirituality in her life, the trauma she was carrying in her body and even her flippant attitude towards money. Danijela used to divert all money related issues to her husband, not because he’s any smarter than her, but because she would tell herself she couldn’t figure it out.

Now, that same woman who once thought money didn’t need her attention, hasn’t missed a single weekly money date.

As for what living in your worth means to her, it’s “...being in alignment, knowing that even though whatever massive dream I have, even though I’m not living it, the steps that I’m taking are towards it and there’s not a lot of worry around if or how or when. I’m in the process and its what makes me so happy and makes me want to share my love with people.”

Listen to our full conversation as danijela shares how she was able to stand in her worth, create a new money story and how you can too.
