Financial Protection in Unprecedented Times

For many of us, the world has never looked the way it does right now.

And it never will.

Each day, each moment, each breath, in truth, is brand new. All we have is this moment. And we have the power to decide what we give our focus to in every moment.

We are seeing many industries change the way they are working and dealing with clients, with some adjusting their key terms and conditions. As a licensed Insurance Advisor, I can assure you that the insurance industry is no different. Insurance companies are allowing for the completion of applications digitally to ensure clients are being serviced while adhering to the social distancing requirements. Many have also increased the limits for non-medical coverage which means you can obtain an insurance policy up to $750,000 and even $1 million in some cases without requiring a medical exam. These are truly unprecedented times and also opportune times to ensure you and your family are protected.

However, some changes are not so advantageous with some insurance companies making exclusions for those diagnosed with COVID-19. Meaning that any new policies being issued will not cover individuals diagnosed with the virus, particularly for travel insurance and hospitalization. Some companies have even made changes to their disability policies as the virus is now considered a “known circumstance.”

While these have been the only changes thus far, the reality is, we do not know what other exclusions insurance companies may make to protect themselves as a business. Yes, they are a business too.

What does this mean for you?

Life insurance and critical illness insurance are a tool used by many families to protect the financial burden that may arise in the event of death or sickness. With the current outbreak of COVID-19, it is possible that exclusions can be made where insurance companies will not pay claims if someone passes away due to COVID-19 or is diagnosed with the virus.

The situation we are facing provides a great time to review your insurance policies and to get clear on what you have in place to protect your family and your finances before insurers make future changes.

Many people have insurance but are unsure of their type of policy, coverage amount or whether their coverage is still adequate for their family’s needs. While some do not have insurance at all. Wherever you fall, the opportunity is here for you to get in contact with an Advisor and discuss what’s available for you.

With what is going on, the future is currently uncertain but you have the ability to gain control and take action now to provide financial protection, peace and security for your family.
