Creating Heart-Centered Financial Goals in a Crisis

I know what you’re thinking... how can I set financial goals when we’re in the middle of a financial crisis?

My response – how can you not?

Without goals we have nothing to work towards. And if you’re not working towards something during this time you are going to find yourself in a financial catastrophe.

When ‘life happens’ we tend to easily focus on adjusting to the circumstances of life and fail to adjust our finances in the process. The key to creating life-long financial freedom is to adjust your financial goals to align with the current realities of life. In doing so, you can quickly shift the way you manage your money to avoid further financial disaster or unnecessary debt. The more you allow your finances to evolve and adjust with the flow of life, the more you can live in financial peace and security.

Now before you go and pick financial goals out of the air – like we’ve always been taught to do – let’s learn how to create financial goals that you’ll actually be motivated to achieve. Ones that align with your core values and your heart.

Your goals don’t have to be big and earth shattering.

Maybe you want to commit to putting 10% of whatever income you are making during this time to your emergency fund.

Maybe you want to stick to your NEW spending budget or see if you can cut your normal spending by 20%.

Maybe you want to pay the minimums on all your debts and pay them on time for once.

Whatever it is, you want to have 3 solid financial goals that you can actively work towards during this time. This will keep you focused and reduce the risk of emotional spending or as I’ve been guilty of ‘grocery gluttony’ (ie. buying 3 tubs of ice cream because it’s become our daily afternoon snack of choice).

Here’s how to create Heart-Centered Financial Goals:

1. Connect to Your Higher Self

The one who knows her desires, who already lives in abundance, who releases all thoughts of scarcity and lack.

You want to set goals out of this version of yourself.

2. Identify Your Core Values

Write only what is true to you, regardless of what others expect of you. What do you value? What is important to you?

3. Identify Your Financial GOALS

Make your goals very specific (include deadlines and amounts).

4. Align Your Core Values with Your Financial Goals

The financial goals that align with your core values are your Heart-Centered Goals. These are the goals that you will actually be motivated to stick to and achieve because they align with who you are. Only create a financial plan around these goals. Let go of any goals that do not align with your values – they will only waste your time and take you away from your true heart’s desire.
