Caitlin's Money Story

Newsflash: closing your eyes won’t make your debt disappear.

If there was ever a University degree offered in personal finance avoidance, many of us would graduate with a four point average. In fact I’m pretty sure my client Caitlin would say she was qualified enough to teach the course herself. In her own words, she was a “bonafide ostrich” when it came to money mindset and management. Debt? If she didn’t see it, she didn’t have it. But that approach was causing her to fall into the habit of living paycheque to paycheque and dipping into overdraft. The problem wasn’t that she didn’t have enough money, she was just spending it on the wrong things.

Anyone can argue that if you have the money, you should spend the money - especially on the things that make you happy! #YOLO The problem that Caitlin ran into was that her spending was only giving her instant gratification or temporary happiness. When those things stopped serving their purpose, she was still left with the parts of her life that needed attention but that she kept avoiding because she didn’t think she was worthy of them. She opted to spend on things that were crappy quality or thrift-store finds because she didn’t believe she could afford to spend a larger amount of money on higher quality items. She gives the example of having the same mattress for 15 years because spending on a new mattress all in one purchase felt outrageous! Her identity of “I can’t afford it” was having an effect on her mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. She wasn’t going to the gym, we already know her sleep was terrible and she didn’t have much of a social life because she was embarrassed of her apartment being furnished with outdated and secondhand furniture.

Caitlin wasn’t aware that she saw herself as unworthy but was very aware of the shame she felt with her lack of knowledge around money. Any attempts at changing that only caused more shame and overwhelm that the only suitable option was to bury her head in the sand again.

With Unblock Abundance,

Caitlin felt validated.

During the Unblock Abundance coaching program, Caitlin began to understand the importance of intentional versus unintentional spending and how her relationship with money was the reason this cycle of shame had continued for so long. She began to understand the importance of mindset and money blocks and made some huge strides in personal growth - which often is the hardest part of the process. Caitlin now understands that her fear of spending on high ticket items had less to do with her ability to afford them and relied heavily on not feeling worthy of them. Now she is on her way to creating a life of abundance...

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude when I think about this experience. Because of the amount of support and love we collectively generated, I was able to overcome the limiting beliefs that have been holding me back. The way that the program is organized: the exercises, videos, spreadsheets, coaching calls, breakout groups, Facebook group - all of this created wrap-around support and loving accountability. I would recommend this program to any woman that is feeling stuck or feeling shame around their own financial situations. It doesn't have to be this way. You're not alone. And you can turn things around. This program was the best investment I've made so far in my whole life. I am changed for the better because of this experience.

My first moment of recognizing abundance was when I found $20 in a snowbank in the 2nd or 3rd week of the program. Since then, I've attracted new opportunities and nearly $10K unexpectedly. I was not planning on any of this, but when I started practicing abundance, it all came flooding in!” - Caitlin V.
