The Money Mindset - Changing the Way Women Relate to Money

WHEN WE REALLY THINK ABOUT IT, WE WERE BORN AS A CLEAN SLATE. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT MONEY WAS…

So, why do we, especially as women, have such strong opinions and judgements about money in our adult lives? I helped break down the answer to this question and more on CPA Canada’s Financial Literacy Podcast: Mastering Money.

As a child you may remember hearing your parents talk about money; sometimes in hushed tones, sometimes leading to an argument, sometimes being told “we don’t have enough money for that”. Or maybe you were raised to think that money is a “man’s world” by watching your dad go to work and your mom stay at home and take care of the family.

These brief glimpses into financial insecurity, family dynamics around money and other childhood experiences are what shape your adult relationship with money.

But, that doesn’t mean you can’t change your mindset of money being a burden, or that financial freedom can only happen if you have a partner or that financial security is only for others.

These are all things I classify as money blocks; thoughts that may not be true, but are true to YOU.

So how do you tackle these limiting beliefs? The first and most important step is to address them head on.
