The Importance of Financial Literacy in Schools

Financial literacy should be a mandatory class that is taught in schools. There are some provinces that have included similar courses as part of their curriculum and l it’s important that this be the standard across the country. 

Students coming out of high school and getting a job or young adults starting their career after post-secondary education need to have the skills to make financial decisions around savings, debt-repayment and most importantly how to spend their money. 

As I shared in this interview with CBC, when I landed my dream accounting job fresh out of University, I fell into a financial crisis that could have been avoided if I had been able to take a class on personal financial planning in school.
