The Importance of Financial Literacy - an IFAC Content Series
When people hear the term financial literacy, everyone immediately focuses on the money management side of it. But it's so much more than just the numbers we see in a bank account or the tangible components of money; financial literacy also includes the subconscious beliefs that drive our money habits.
I’m passionate about female financial literacy. As women, we make different money decisions than men because we were never taught that it was ok to take risks or that we could manage our money. And as we grew up, there wasn’t any support or empowerment to teach us otherwise. Women are socialized differently around money and I want to help change that narrative.
I was recently featured by the International Federation of Accountants (the global voice for the accountancy profession) as one of the Women Improving the World's Financial Literacy. Out of all the accomplishments inside of my CPA career and as an entrepreneur, this is definitely one of the greatest honours.
Inside the interview I talk about the struggle women continue to have, regardless of their income or background, and how we need to come together to get over obstacles surrounding financial literacy.
