3 Things Standing in The Way of You Having a CEO Mindset

Adding that CEO title to your business card or introducing yourself as such at that networking event, doesn’t truly make you one. Anyone can call themselves a CEO, but saying you’re a CEO and being a CEO are two different things. “Being” a CEO starts with your mindset and is reflected in how you show up and run your business. So let me ask you - are you truly running a business or just running a hobby with a fancy name? If you can’t give an honest YES to the former, you are likely living with limiting beliefs and money blocks that keep you small and stop you from stepping into the CEO that builds the business you are dreaming of. And let me say that being a CEO has nothing to do with how much money you make. To become a CEO, you must first be a CEO in your mind and then the money, business, client and abundance will follow.

Here are three key blocks (and how to overcome them, of course) that are standing in the way of you confidently building a CEO mindset.

How You See Yourself (Your CEO Identity)

You may not see your one-woman business as needing a CEO but that’s exactly what it needs - not when you start seeing success, not when you bring on a team, not when you add another product or service - but right now! If you want to be successful, your mindset has to start at that level of success. When you’re just starting out, the natural progression is to see yourself at the starting point and eventually becoming successful. That’s not how a successful person operates. Instead they hold a 6-figure mindset that allows them to take daily actions and create every day business habits that allows them to build a 6-figure business.

So, how do you really see yourself and your business?

Here are some mindset blocks that you may have caught yourself saying a time or two:

  • I’m just going to see if this will work.

  • I’ll give it one year and see how things go.

  • I’ll sign up for job posting notifications, just in case. It’s always good to have a Plan B.

  • I’m starting so late, I probably won’t make it.

  • I don’t have the experience, credentials or enough certificates to my name, etc.

  • No one will probably buy from me.

  • I have no idea what I’m doing. I can’t take myself seriously and neither will others.

  • Everyone else can do this better than me. What makes me so different/unique?

Money Blocks

CEO = YOU - MONEY BLOCKS. I’m sorry to break it to you but money blocks don’t just come up in your personal life, you can absolutely expect them to come up at any stage of your business as well. And if you don’t have an aligned relationship with money, how can you ever expect to call in the money you desire into your business? Money blocks come in all different voices, stories and emotions and there are various ways you can identify them. Some are created from your childhood like thinking you’re the first entrepreneur in your family, so you don’t have your family’s support because they wanted a different career path for you. Other types of money blocks are ones that you’ve created for yourself. Some common money blocks I hear from my clients are:

  • I sometimes don’t believe in myself.

  • I’m scared of success / I’m scared of failure.

  • I don’t have enough experience to be doing this or to make a lot of money.

  • It’s hard to make money / I will have to work really hard and sacrifice a lot to build this business.

  • It’s hard to get clients.

  • The market is _____ and so people won’t buy from me.

And there are even money blocks that we carry with us based on what society thinks or feels about entrepreneurship and may not even be aligned with how you truly feel. If you’ve ever thought of any of these…

  • I’m just starting out, I can’t charge that much.

  • It’s always ok to give discounts to friends and family.

  • I currently charge what I think people can afford (not what I’m worth).

… then you definitely fall into this category of having societal money blocks.

Business Blocks

We all carry limiting beliefs; they could be based on anything we heard, were told or maybe even experienced ourselves. And our limiting beliefs drive the everyday actions we take and decisions we make in our business. As Bob mentions in his quote we take those beliefs and find a way, any way, to infuse them into our own lives, whether they serve us or not. Do you think the most successful entrepreneurs  hold any limiting beliefs? If I was a betting woman, I would say the answer is “highly unlikely”. Or if they did, they were able to identify their limiting beliefs, and create new ones that didn’t block the business  they desired. I’m here to tell you, if they can do it, what’s stopping you? Let me help you identify some blocks that might come up in your entrepreneur journey:

  • Are you spending your time comparing yourself to what everyone else is doing and not actually leaning into what you can uniquely provide in this world?

  • Are you spending your time on the "busy work" but avoiding the real tasks that are actually going to move your business forward?

  • Are you wasting time trying to craft the perfect copy, the perfect instagram post, the perfect sales page, instead of putting your offer out into this world so that you can make the money for your business to survive and thrive.

  • Are you operating from an energy of scarcity and desperately trying to push people into your product or service?

  • Paralyzed to do anything because you’re so afraid to fail?

  • Are you still doing everything yourself instead of hiring the right people to advance your business? Do you hold the belief that only you can do it?

You and I both know these block the business you are here to create, so why allow them to take up space in your mind and cause you to act out of alignment with how you desire to run and operate your business?
