How Women Can be the Boss of Their Finances

This was the honest truth as I shared it with The Toronto Star about what the turning point was for me when it came to my finances. I had just graduated from University, had a great career and thought I had a disposable income. And in my mind, with that disposable income came disposable spending.

That is until a friend asked me about my personal budget. I realized I had no idea where I was spending my money and only after I started looking at my bank statements did I realize I was living a lifestyle I would not be able to sustain for much longer.

That’s when I panicked.

What happened next is that I took time to learn and unlearn. I learned how to create a budget, I learned how to create savings goals and understand what my money would be best put towards to reach those goals. At the same time I unlearned the money mindsets and childhood money blocks I didn’t even realize I had been carrying around. As I came across a thought or belief that didn’t align with what I was now starting to build, I created a new mindset in its place that served me better.

I truly believe anyone at any age can make that shift of taking control of their finances. As women, we’re led to believe it’s something that we’re not capable of, and I feel the complete opposite.
